Great topic. I wrote down outsmartthesystems comment because it is so true! My dad drives me crazy with his negative, waiting on the world to end mindset. So detrimental.

Who came up with the phrase TTATT? When?
by dazed but not confused inwho came up with this term and when?
is there a specific member that the credit goes to or did it just develop over time?
was it used in the beginning of this site or is it taken from another site?.

Yes, I don't know the exact year for the JW publication. Joy Castro's book "The Truth" I was based on it, as it was the study book when she was growing up. Incidentally, her book is a great read, if you haven't already checked it out. She wasn't baptized so I didn't feel too guilty reading her book first, when I was learning TTATT last year.

I'm sorry to hear that about your dad. I wonder how the older ones are reacting in general to the new light?

young JW;s on facebook
by besty injust trawled a round a few next-gen jw's back in my old neck of the woods up in scotland - kids of my gen really.

On my facebook, I made a folder where I put inspirational type quotes. Quite a few JW's "liked" or shared it. Now I'm adding photo quotes about logical, critical thinking, benefits of an open mind etc. I also added the logical fallacies bingo chart, as an "ooh, let's try this at the text party" and tagged my daughter telling her to go easy on me as I'm still learning. She knows the JW religion isn't right and is taking Psychology, but since the game might intimidate those that don't know logical fallacies,I added a disclaimer.
Just trying to get a few thinking. I unfriended those that would be difficult, too Julia.

I watched half of this last night. It was incredibly disturbing to see how the older brother relied on emotional blackmail and a completely closed mind. Wow. Will have to watch the rest tonight. The corporate setting was also quite unrealistic. I have worked in corporate settings for 13 years and never seen anyone be forced to work that much overtime.

Off to tell the family...
by Gypsy Sam inthe day i've been waiting for is here.
i'm flying home to see family and some old friends, most of whom are jw.
since learning ttatt a few months back, i came to the decision i would have to tell my parents that we are no longer active and don't have any plans to return.

Due to a quick visit I'll be taking somewhat last minute, I will see my family again very soon. I really am not comfortable with them thinking I am in any way active with JW world anymore. Last time I visited, my teenager was with me and there really wasn't a good time to speak freely.
I have to be true to myself, whatever the outcome. While it seems they may not want to really know where things stand, I am compelled to at least touch on the points here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/262252/1/This-WT-book-allows-one-raised-as-a-JW-to-do-a-critical-review-of-the-religion-and-elders-cant-go-against-it#.UjW26Xy9KSM
The child abuse issue was the main reason I started digging and I've tried to bring that up with them, but the cognitive dissonance kicks in. Sigh. They delight in how awful the world is and can't wait for it to end.
I also want to get the point across that I'm funding private college prep high school for my child, as a single mother. This means I'm very focused on her going to college and will NOT they parents retirement plan, when the system doesn't end. (I'm also headed back to school, which they know).
My daughter won't be with me on this trip, so I really don't mind if an argument ensues.

This WT book allows one raised as a JW to do a critical review of the religion and elders can't go against it.
by EndofMysteries ini love this gem, it was taken off the jw.org website, it seems only material after 1990 is up now, but it's here, http://www.scribd.com/doc/5472988/the-time-for-true-submission-to-god .
page 6, "the need to search for the truth".
says this....and i couldn't agree with it more!

Unbelievable. Precisely what I want to post on my Facebook and email to some family before the December 2013 WT gets read.
Wow. Reference about your religion primarily dictated by where you were born is exactly what I wanted.
Thank you!

I think that's why I'm so eager to use my Facebook as a platform to get some thinking points across. I don't have any elders or their spouses on mine, for a reason though. I do have A LOT of single JW's and under age 40. I'm amazed I haven't been unfriended yet, as I post a lot from the knowledge of today site and the critical thinker page. Just trying to plant seeds, lol.
I hope you hear some good updates and can make a few points. Facebook seems to be a great tool for also showing JW's that faders are happy, productive and using time to pursue volunteer activities that genuinely help others.
Carpe Diem!

Don't Question. Don't Think. Just Obey!
by Oubliette insome of the rhetoric in recent wt magazines got me thinking, it would be useful to have a somewhat comprehensive list of quotes showing the wtbts's incessasant control-freakery and their irrational--and apparently growing--paranoia.
i was thinking it would be good to have a variety of both longer and shorter, older as well as more recent quotes that prove the pattern and history of their manipulative mantra of: don't question.
just obey!.

This is precisely why I'm trying get some points across on Facebook, before my jw friends and family cut me off.

20 The congregation in Pergamum was in great peril because it allowed in its midst “those holding fast the teaching of the sect of Nicolaus.” Christ told the congregation: “Repent. If you do not, I am coming to you quickly, and I will war with them with the long sword of my mouth.” Sectarians want to do Christians spiritual harm, and those bent on promoting divisions and sects will not inherit God’s Kingdom. ( Romans 16:17, 18; 1 Corinthians 1:10; Galatians 5:19-21 ) If any Christian is beginning to entertain apostate views and wants to spread them, he ought to take a warning from Christ! To save himself from disaster, he should repent and seek the spiritual assistance of the elders in the congregation. ( James 5:13-18 ) Prompt action is vital, for Jesus is coming quickly to execute judgment.
